I had a Peugeot 405 SRI. It had done 100k when I bought it. It had rattly trim and felt a bit loose, but after another 60k it never let me down and never got any worse.
I followed that with a Citroen ZX Volcane. That was even better, although I didn't keep it that long due to getting a new job with a company car.
Go to France and all they drive are French cars. They are all fairly low spec cars tho'. I think the French do cheap, basic cars really well. It's when you get higher up the spec list with more things that can break that they struggle.
