So is any car really, but the stringent maintenance schedule mounts up in costs and is a bi too much (IMO) for a daily. I actually love the cars and even considered them but for me the MPS was a better overall package and far more forgiving on the maintenance side of things.

To each there own, but for the price, age, mileage, performance and reliability, you'll be hard pushed to find a better car than the 6MPS

Until you get it serviced or repaired by Mazda, most smaller garages will not touch them, we used to run standard Mazda 6's in work and the service costs were bonkers.

Mazda 3 is Ford Focus underneath btw and can be cheaper to run, the one big issue with the Mazda 6 is that they rust, I looked at a few 07 plates last year and they were all rotten on the rear arches and sills.

Hmm haven't experienced that tbh, but I have a 3, which as you said is a focus chassis.

I speak to a lot of guys on the MPSOC with 6MPS and have never heard anything like what you're saying.

OP - ultimately it's up to you, get the car you want but I'm confident once you've tried an MPS you'll be sold ;)

Like my 1.8t and a trip to Rtech! That gives you 200bhp!  :smug:

Is that from the 150 engine Len ?  Mpg and it still a quick car ?

@len - Also I met up with a member in Newbury last weekend and he gave me some spark plugs to give you and a pulley ??

* Gear stick in horrible place

Disagree with that, gear stick is in exactly the tight place....feels very natural and works really well.

That said the steering is its weak point and you'll have far more fun in an Integra Type R, look for a JDM '96 spec.

Just watch the rust, gearbox synchros and clutches....

As a Passat owner for many years, I feel that I'm qualified to say that it will still handle like a barge tho'. It's also a pretty heavy car. My B5.5 V6 TDI was modded to around 200bhp, but I wouldn't call it VERY quick at all.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Just hacked a leon across Germany, not a cupra but still a hateful piece of crap.
The seat in the airport lounge is more comfortable and rattles less, I would avoid even the sporty models.

EP3 CTR are fine in the steering department on the later years, and my 52 plate was far tighter than my mk5 or ED30. That said they drive harsh, on or off as has been said there is no build up. It's balls out or granny style. And the gear stick although taking some time to not reach down makes brilliant sense for quick changes. Gearbox is tighter than a mk5 or Leon having driven my mates Cupra. Brakes are a little small for my taste and no traction control can make it fun come snow. But as put the box silly tight hot hatch its a killer. But has to be driven hard and does make it obvious.

That's the driving side. But the trip is terrible. Easy to maintain yes, but not very tactile. Seats can be creaky, mine wasn't bad but mates 05 was noisy. Stereo is sh!te. But can chain and Honda reliability make running costs quite low. They do eat oil when pushed.  Not as much as the TFSI but similar. Parts are not cheap. But neither are VW. Or Mazda, or BMW.

Well mine is a 1.8t Sport which has better suspension and slightly lighter engine so makes a bit of a difference.
This is my second Passat first one I had for 3 years and was remapped again by Rtech to approx 190bhp.
This newer one has now made 200bhp and Rtech's RR is conservative.
