Hi, not been on here for a long while but would enjoy people's views :-)
I have a late 2007, 1 previous owner (we are the second),5 door, black (lc9z) mk5 gti with DSG, leather and winter pack. I purchased it about a year ago as a 'compromise' car for me and my other half to share as we had our first baby. I had to sell my mint e36 m3 to make it possible. My partner has now started back at work and I said that as she parks in a public car park, that I was not happy that she uses the Golf so instead bought her a runabout Vectra C.
I drive my van all week for work so the golf is now virtually redundant like my M3 was. Perhaps getting used once a week if that. My first question is, is it worth keeping, as in my mind, all it's going to do is depreciate. The car currently has 63k on it, has a literally immaculate interior and a VERY tidy exterior. Cars seem to be going up for anywhere between 7500 and £9000 (Not necessarily selling) and I paid 10k for it a year ago with 48k on so has already dropped more than I would have liked.
The next question is, if I was to sell the car, do I get the wheels refurbished at Aerocoat in Aeromax finish before I put it up for sale? They're about half hour from mine and the wheels themselves have paint flaking off from where the previous owner presumably got a carp job done that looked good at the time. Is it worth the messing around and will it affect the value by more than £400?
I do like the car but as a daily driver. For a 'fun' car, I like rawness like a DC2 or zero depreciation like an M3. The Golf is far too composed for me to drive spiritedly in and I would be scared to track it as I cannot afford to replace it instantly whereas I could with the other two cars mentioned.
What would you all do???
Cheers. Harry
