Waiting a few more weeks until March will also mean one month less of sh!tty winter roads to drive on.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

My GTI is also sat at the dealer as of Friday and I've decided to wait until 1st March for a couple of reasons:

1. New Reg - my 1st new car and I always envy people who collect their new cars on 1st day of new registration
2. I'm hoping the worst of the weather will be out the way, although it did snow in March/April last year!
3. It's my birthday on 28th Feb and my wife has planned a nice weekend away for us, all starting with picking up the car on Sat 1st March and going away in it.

The value isn't as important to me, but I do think it will make a difference.

Hi,

I had the same dilema.  Car arrived just before Christmas, Birthday is also 28 Febuary, so was planning for 1 March. But then I weakened!  I picked up the car on 18 January, and wow what a car.  You have the best Birthday present ever coming mate.

Ian if you had to name just one thing to reflect your jubilant "wow what a car..."   what would it be?

I think if it was my own  I would do the same, only a month and a few days, soon pass provided you can stop thinking about it (he says only 3 more sleeps!)

Golf GTD Carbon grey on route to UK , ordered last August with agreed trade in price for 09 Scirrocco TDI
Do I have now 63 plate or wait until March for new reg, problem with this is current car will require oil service brake fluid service and intercooler pipe replacement before March wiping out the gains of waiting for new 14 plate??

I'd prob wait til March for the new 14 as it's only 5 weeks!!!  (Not that I'd personally pay any extra for a March 14 (14 Plate) over a Feb 14 (63 Plate).

ps.  I wouldn't bother servicing or repairing your p/x.  You wouldn't get anymore for it, having done so!  ;)

The DCC and ride to be honest.  To be able to have a GTI that I can set to ride better than my MK6 Golf Match or be able to stiffen the suspension up on demand is a credit to VW :)

I guess it depends on your personal view, doubt it will make a massive difference to the re-sale value, £300-500 perhaps?

More like £800 to a grand. Between plates count on £200 depreciation per month and then around £800 at the new plate. If you lease then it isn't a concern, but on a private buy it is.

For me, the plate isn't important, neither is the £xxx.xx difference in depreciation over the next X years. The diesel on this beast is going to do you for far more than that, so just enjoy it I say! As someone else said, life's to short to worry about these things.

if you're frugal with money, and care about the odd few £100 here and there, then of course wait. Or if the '14' on your car is important, then by all means, wait. Otherwise, you're missing out on 'breaking in' time to allow you to fully enjoy the car come 2 months' time, at which time you can really enjoy it!
