I did think that if it was not sorted by the end of April I would consider rejecting the car. As the customer service is so bad, they have not even logged my phone calls and never phone me back. My dealer keeps me updated and I don't have any issues with them just VW

Does anyone know my options?

Hi,

I got a voicemail from VW UK today, apparently the parts have arrived to replace the shock absorbers to see if this solves the issue, gotta call them back next week to book it in at my dealers to get the work done. The way got VW UK involved was a stroppy email through the website which resulted in a follow up call a coupe of weeks later, which got the ball rolling.

With regards to rejecting a car it's a long and drawn out process, and in most cases I don't think is successful, I had lot of issues with a new Peugeot a few years ago, eventually the dealers gave in and replaced the car for more or less no additional cost to me, but the car was never officially rejected even though it had over £4k worth of warranty work done due a a number of serous problems, I think they even went on and sold the car as an "approved used" Peugeot. But at least I managed to get rid of it and the dealer principle didn't have to speak to me every week to explain why the car was still having a load of issues, I should really have listened to everyone who said at the time not to get a Peugeot, but hindsight is great!

Cheers,
Phil

Hi all,

Just a quick update, VW UK called today to say that new shock aborsbers have been received at my dealers and will be fitted to my car next week. They claim this will fix the noisy "characteristic" of the rear of the car. Will let you all know how it goes next week!

Cheers,
Phil

Boot rattle was a common issue with the Scirocco - one of the 2 bump stops for the boot lid had some play in it or stuck out further than the other- maybe it's the same with yours. You might need to adjust one or both outwards a notch or 2. You had to get a small (2 or 3mm) allen key through the centre hole and loosen the stop off then pull it out a click or 2 and tighten up the allen bolt.

Monkeyhanger I owe you a beer, had a rattling noise in my boot on brand new R, been driving me mad for the four weeks I have had the car, tried all sorts of things that didn't work. Thanks to your post re  bump stops I checked mine and they were unevenly adjusted, one was about 5mm lower than the other, now sorted and rattle gone :)

No bother. Seems as though the Germans are no better at building German cars than the Portuguese are. 5mm out from one side to the other is a huge discrepancy.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Hi all,

The car went back the other day for the rattle, which wasn't cured by the replaced shock absorbers, but low and behold the noise was coming from the boot lit...this is what I mentioned to them months ago, but hey ho. It turned out the boot lit needed adjustment, I asked if it was the bump stops (I had this issue on my old scirocco also) They claimed it wasn't that. It seems to be OK now, but I have only done about 30 miles since the car came back.

Cheers,
Phil

Thought I'd add my situation to this thread. I booked in my car at my dealers, looks like they've identified the noise to be coming from the rear shock absorbers. They'll be replaced and hopefully no more noise. Apparently it had taken them a while to pinpoint the sound. Will update when I have the car back, most likely tomorrow.

I had a phone call from the dealers yesterday to say they finally had a TPI number.

They have supplied an mp3 file to the dealers to compare against our rattles. Mine is booked in on Tuesday so will see if it matches. If it does then it's a rear damper swap to up rated parts.

Finally got the car back, took a while for the parts to come down... And I'm happy to report that pesky rattle no longer ermmmm rattles.
It did turn out to be the rear shock absorbers.
