Crack in my gearbox oil every where help please
« on: 24 January 2014, 00:23 »
I've cracked my gearbox on my 18t agu oil has run every where not sure how big the crack is but need the car to get me to the end of the month before the paint shop.
I'm going to try JB WELD to seal it.

My question is 1 where's the drainage plug.
2 the filler plug
3 the bleed nipple to get all the air out after I seal it.
Just hope this jb weld will hold till the end of the month. Or is there a other brand better to try

Any help will be great guys

What gearbox will fit my 18t agu?

As above what gearbox will fit my agu 1.8t golf??

Last nite I noticed the clutch pedal got soft on the way to work.
After leaving work notice oil over the road. Took alook to fined gearbox oil running from the bottom of the box I was thinking I may have hit something in the road as my car is low on coilovers.

Anyway had the car towed to mates garage this morning to get it up on the ramp to find oil still coming out with metal shavings I take it I will need a gear box?. But which one??

Your best bet is a s/h gearbox, sounds like a bearing has broken up.

I've merged the two threads, it seems pointless having 2

Right guys found a gearbox at a breakers over here in belfast where I live for £135 delivered it's coming Monday.
The breakers told me down the phone the box is from a AGU so I take it that it's going to fit.

But also been reading there are a couple of different types of box for a AGU is this correct??

In regard to physically fitting and working all mk4 5 speed should bolt in and work it's just the ratios that differ I was considering a diesel box but the ratios would have been detrimental due to the short rev range and high torque of a diesel a 2.slow gti one will fit also and ratios are very similar from what I can see so long story short the one from the agu will fit like a glove I did mine on my driveway in the rain in 3 days (an hour or 2 a day)

GTI is not a trim level. It is a lifestyle.
