you can get a new pin from VW as well.... it's 7 digits and will only work for a certain day.
if anyone with vcds lives near you might be worth checking if they can get into ecu and immobiliser, then ask for the 7 digit pin from vw.

that pin should not be too expensive to obtain from them..

I don't think the dealer will give out the information but I can try. As for the key I will call them and see how much they will charge for just having it cut. Thanks for finding the key online.

cutting key if you supply - most key cutting places can do mk3 keys!
5£ not a penny more! so 12£ for a new key :)

as for the 7 digit code, yes vw will give it to you. just show up with car paperwork (and car if you can!), should not charge charge you over the odds for this very simple task of getting a key generated on a website!

programming it to your immobiliser with vcds + code takes 5 minutes - and that includes booting laptop and connecting it all up.

if you lived anywhere near me i'd do it for you

photo of the keytag below... maybe it's with the service book (if you have that?)

nope I do not have the code...I have found a boot sticker with a bunch of numbers on it, but not sure if one of them is the key code or not...I managed to get into the car using a key from another vw...but cannot unlock the steering column as the key wont turn in the ignition...but at least I can get into the car now..

I know about taking the door handle apart and reading the key code...so now the car can be towed to the dealer and they can read the key code from the door handle and do the rest I imagine...they have already ordered a key using the VIN number so I hope it matches the ignition barrel. who knows if in 15 years they have changed the ignition barrel on the car or not....:)...the previous owner stated that she has never changed the keys while she owned it so there may be hope that the original key will fit...:)

I was wondering if there is any way to unlock the steering column without the key....

This would help me get it to the dealer easier...at least for the AA...:)

just tell AA that you don't have key and they need to put front wheels on a fork. not gonna be an issue to get column unlocked then :)

vw don't need the key if you ordered it by VIN, they can request PIN needed for coding from their system (it scans the ID from immobiliser and requests a code online automatically).
