this is my current setup on my GTD for winter instead of the standard 18"

Rim : DEZENT TD black 7.00 x 17 (LK 5/112, OS 48)
Tyre : Nokian WR-A3 205/50 R17 93V

Rolling radius is almost identical so no impact on speedo etc and performance in the cold and wet is so much better than the Conti summer tyres

I've given up with VW.. Going to take advantage of the Costco offer on Monday to get the tyres swapped on the current wheels (and take the risk of a scratch), then ebay the Bridgestones and replace them with something decent when summer tyre time comes round again.

It means having 18" winter wheels rather than the 17" I was going to have but it gets rid of the Potenzas (I'm getting fed up of seeing the traction control light) and it stops me having to mess around with VW anymore.

It's shod with Continental WinterContacts. Size is 225 x 45 R 17, but I don't think there is any choice in the size without compromising the speedo, handling etc...

aren't 225 the correct width tyres for 17's??

225 are the standard width but for winter tyres narrower is better hence the choice of 205 with profile 50 to keep the circumference the same

No, in fact a bit cheaper than 225 width, purchased with alloys fully fitted from mytyres (about 1/2 price of the VW 17" set)

That'll be 45 profile for a 17" tyre, 50 for a 16" tyre.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
