Bump! And i have proof.
« on: 09 January 2014, 21:42 »
A few weeks ago i noticed that someone must have gone into my car and driven off. Not a big bump but a deformation in the plastic bumper that you could see if you crouched by the car.

I got the cctv today, and the driver (who i thought was close at the time) reverses into mine and you can see her bounce off it. I'm just wondering what to do, I'm going to give her the chance to pay for the fix, of course

Really? I'm not sure I would give someone like that, that opportunity. I have had so many of my cars driven into, so many times, I would be straight down the rozzers. How else will you change her behaviour?

Putting myself in your shoes and if this happened to me no matter how small the damage I would be livid and felt gutted that someone got away with it, too many dishonest/bad drivers on the roads, make them pay I say.

The police!

Surely you just put a claim in on her insurance, Im guessing you have the plate?

Then her insurance will notify her there has been a claim made against her, she can deny or admit but ultimately insurance will pay out regardless, its not worth it for them not too would cost more than the fix.

This happened to a mate a woman claimed, and I repeat CLAIMED he had reversed into her HE DIDNT! And she was in a hire car that happened to of been marked on the side he apparently reversed into. Long story short she took his reg without his knowledge and his insurance basically said regardless if you deny it the other insurance will take it to court, court costs way too much so they just paid out.

Not to put a downer on things but does the video clearly show no damage before the bump and damage after?
If not the police may just say there's nothing they can do as there is no actual proof that incident caused the damage. Worth a try though!

The car was 5 days old when this happened, it was spotless and the video definately shows her bouncing off my car, and there's damage on mine. It's quite clear cut from what I car.

Do you know who this is? Ie was it a work car park or similar? If not then it's a case of giving the video to the fuzz to sort followed by a swift call to your insurance. >:(

Go to the bobbies unless you know the “perp”. Driving off without leaving details is an offense. You’ve gone to the trouble of digging up CCTV evidence of the offense that was available  – others aren’t so lucky to get it on tape (cameras facing wrong way etc).

Did she get out and survey the damage? If so that is full acknowledgement that she was aware she’d hit your car. She might be able to say later that she had a look and didn’t see any damage, hence didn’t leave a note (that might absolve her of the offense of not reporting an accident, but not of the responsibility to fix damage caused).

Another kind of acknowledgement of collision would be going to park up in a space, hitting your car and then buggering off rather than park up.

If the impact was really soft, there is the possibility that she’s such a ditzy tart that she didn’t realise she’d hit your car whilst applying make-up/texting on her phone etc whilst performing a reverse manoeuvre into your car!
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
