Leak
« on: 02 January 2014, 13:04 »
Hello,

My car has started cutting out, car turns over and runs for a couple of seconds and dies. Today I went to check the fuel pump fuse and got a shock, then a load of water dripped out of the fuse box. My scuttle tray panel is pretty tatty looking and I am assuming that the water is coming in through this (and the blower motor on the passenger side) Where can I get a replacement? I had a look on Vwheritage but they only had the seal. There isnt a breakers near me so I am unlikely to source one locally. Are they still available from VW?

Cheers

James

Try the dealers, but probably not stocked. This is will be you only option. The cost hurts, but at least it's the harder version

Have you checked ebay for any cars being broken. Even this site has a section for selling parts including complete cars being broken. The stealers should be a last resort.

& make sure you clear out the drainage holes at either side of the scuttle

If its leaking on to the fuse box then its likely that the scuttle drains are blocked with leaves or other crud and the water is backing up to the bonnet release grommet and ecu mountings, these are ususally perished by now, then the water drips down and on to the fuse box. Replacing the plastic scuttle trays will not solve the problem if the scuttle drain holes are blocked as the trays dump the water off into the ends of the scuttle anyway.

The pathways that the water runs through to the drain where blocked. I've cleared these out and a load of water came out of the drain.

Unfortunately I've ran out of electricity so have to wait until this evening to see if it'll start. Thanks again for your help!
