hi there would a turbo have minimal side to side play in it if there's on oil thanks

Minimal side to side play is normal when not pressurised this is taken up by oil pressure

as long as the guts of the turbo don't catch on the outer casing it should be fine to use. of course the more play you have in it the less mileage you have left before renew/rebuild time comes along.

Even new/refurbished turbos have play in the shaft which as stated is taken up by the oil, side to side is acceptable but in and out isnt
