Clutch pedal snapped.
« on: 23 December 2013, 18:25 »
Happend on my old car, but there was a whole pedal unit on ebay for cheep. So bought the whole thing and had cousin fit it while I was at work. ( cusins a mechanic) however he's on his honeymoon and guessing most garages going to be closed now. And I have to go to work tomorrow. Sorted a lift out for tomorow.

What are my options? How hard is it to replace the clip ( hoping the master cylinder is ok)

I had this go on mine,

Brought a pedal kit from VW as it was the plastic bit and the weld on the pedal that had snapped so check if that has gone as well.

I found it really hard to do and wouldn't like to do it again, I think I'd buy the parts and then pay the hours labour charge I was quoted rather than the few it took me.

You'll have to be careful not to put pressure on the master cylinder from the rod if that breaks the seals that'll need replacing.

I used this guide:

Good luck!

The jobs not to bad but it does help to have a spare pair of hands and small hands at that as the hardest part is getting the spring back in. Make sure you have some small cable ties. If you do it yourself and you're handy with a welder to get the piece back in it'll only set you back a few quid.

Bad luck :/.  I had this happen to me. The aa put a bolt through and the plastic socket end pushes against that now. Not a permanent fix but it will do the job for the minute!

clips etc ordered, giong to be here on saturday, blagg...

suppose it gives me a few days to get the clutch pedal out and get it welded up. while its off i may even sand it down to match the R32 pedals i have, see what it looks like, if im not a fan i can easily re-paint it...

so hopefully it will be fixed this weekend... :)

All you need to do is weld the little metal square back in dude, simples. Not sure what kind of metal it is though.

It will be mild steel so no special welding will be needed.

when it snaped it pretty much snapped everything around it, sensors frigged, the clip the sensor pushes on is snapped, the bump stops for the pedal have snaped... so as well as getting the pedal replaced iv got all them to do, soonest vw can get them for me is sat...
