The DRLs' are always on but that doesn't mean the lights are on.  Your rears won't be illuminated.

Given the legal requirement to have rear running lights at all times in some countries, I wonder if there is a coding change to have the rear lights on at all times?

It should be law to have lights on front and back, the amount of morons I see in the early morning thinking they are ok because their DRL's are on is unreal.

It is - but not all day! Daytime running lights are designed to make your car more visible to to ther road users you are approaching (particularly pedestrians) during daylight hours....

Yes,  that much is obvious,  but causes numerous retards to then do nothing with their lights thinking that drls mean their lights are on automatically,  rendering them less than visible at 5 am in the Cambridgeshire countryside! See it minimum once a week!

Yes, but these retards are completely outclassed by the Morons, who switch their foglights on before they drive off..   I couldn't believe how many i saw last night on the way home.   Do they actually think they look cool?  nobs !

I noticed in the Mk6 that driving on a summers evening with a very bright sun, low down behind me, the headlights came on. Driving back the other way minutes later, the lights were off. The was no change in the overall light levels, some I'm wondering if the front sensor talks to the dimming mirror sensor and between them, they decide to turn the lights on if there is bright sunlight behind the car. It is good practice to do that after all.

That's not a good thing... When the sun's low and behind you, you want your lights on... Think about the sun shining into the eyes of the on coming traffic... Headlights help with your visibility...

Read it again Corgi. That's exactly what I said. My headlight won't help my visibility tho', but they will make me more visible to others.

My mistake...

In the end, many of the electronic driver aids enable many folks to drive their cars with even less thought than they used to have to use.

So true. I've had to drive my Mk2 for the last couple of days. I had to turn the lights and wipers on myself and everything.

What I notice more than anything else is the way the fuel gauge plumets. Even tho' it does about 32mpg, the tank is tiny, so I can start the week with 3/4 of a tank, do 200miles and it's on the red.
