GTi/GTD Auto Lights (Bi-Xenon)
« on: 17 December 2013, 21:59 »
Hi folks,
Quick question, does anybody know why my Auto lights are always on?
Even when I set off from work this afternoon (day light) the main head lights turned on.

Cheers :)

Try cleaning your dusk sensor on the outside of your windscreen. Your lights will probably be on most of the day at this time of year as the light is poor at the best of times.
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

Screen definitely clean, even after I washed it the lights come on.
I assume one they are on, they stay on until the next ignition on cycle?
Any way to adjust the sensitivity?  :nerd:

They should turn off automatically when it gets light even on the same ignition cycle. Sometimes they can be temperamental. My old Mk5 used to do the same. What looks like daylight to you might not be daylight to your dusk sensor as strange as it sounds. They seem to have a mind of their own at times.

I don't think you can adjust the sensitivity no. Have you tried turning the lights onto manual and back on to auto? I wouldn't worry about it though. Some cars (Volvo's) have the lights permanently on as I believe it's a legal requirement in some countries (Sweden I think?).

There is a setting in the CAR menu's for when they come on, early/late etc might be worth a try.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

The DRLs' are always on but that doesn't mean the lights are on.  Your rears won't be illuminated.

He said "the main headlights turned on" - not the DRL'S!

Hi all,
I changed the setting to "late" and today for the firs time I noticed the main headlights turned off when direct sunlight hit the car head one.
But as soon as I moved further down the road the came back on again.

I noticed in the Mk6 that driving on a summers evening with a very bright sun, low down behind me, the headlights came on. Driving back the other way minutes later, the lights were off. The was no change in the overall light levels, some I'm wondering if the front sensor talks to the dimming mirror sensor and between them, they decide to turn the lights on if there is bright sunlight behind the car. It is good practice to do that after all.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
