mk 2 golf mpg?

i get about 220 miles on a tank (£46 quids worth of optimax) from my 16v

though i doubt its set-up right, seems expensive to me!

And what is it with every Vw ive ever driven from 82 mk1 gti to 2001 seat leon cupra that the fuel guage stays on full for ages then drops suddenly to half, stays for a bit then sudden drop to the red bit, which then lasts for ages until you get scared and fill up.

my 85' 1.3 is runnin a pitiful 22mpg not even with hard driving, need a new engine or lottery win.

i dunno baron but its not just vw's etc i got a vectra aswell and it tells me in litres whats left but the way the gauge is i think its almot empty and find out its just under half full its got like 5 lines after the red and halfway marker is on 40litres max being 60 :S

does anyone with a mk2 notice that when you fill all the way to the brim, the 1st bit seems to take ages to move, then flies to the middle, takes a while then flies down to red

also going round left hand bends gives your more fuel, and the opposite for right hand ones lol

used to get 350 on a full tank with my 8v.... had a mk3 box on it too tho

Trouble is running it right into the red, all the shi* from the bottom of the tank gets sucked into the engine!
But my car always seems to be in the red, I haven't been paid for six weeks so I'm putting a fivers worth of the standard unleaded in every three days.
I love going uphill too, always seem to gain another 1/8th of a tank!
