Intercooler Pipework Question

This may sound stupid. and i dont see any problem with it but thought i would ask here first.

my current FMIC isnt the best fitment, mainly because the pipework coming out is streight, however the bumper is obviously curved.

i have access to welding equipment so the work shouldnt be a problem, but if i was to cut the two exits off the intercooler and weld back on at a slight angle so that the pipework came out  at an angle instead of streight, would this cause any problems that you can think of?

as indicated in this highly precise AutoCAD Drawing i have just made :D

white oval is the bumper, red is intercooler, cyan is pipe work, as you can see im thinking of angling the intercooler exits so that the pipework follows the general line of the bumer.

anyone see any problems in this?

Problem you'll find is the slam panel is straight, I think if you go at that angle you'll hit the slam panel.

We had this issue when doing out FMIC kit, we could of pointed the outlets inwards to follow the bumper curve but it just touches the slam panel, our cooler actually angles out towards to bumper then the pipework brings it round the slam panel and behind the bumper, it is mega mega tight but it's the only way to do it! :smiley:

pipes are below the main part of the slam panel.

i know that there are parts of the slam panel that run down where the edge of the radiator is etc. but i think the fmic edges are at about that point so hopefully it shouldnt touch.

flow wise it should be fine though? going to have a proper look this weekend and see what i can do and make sure nothings going to obstruct it. so long as nothing is in the way it should be ok yeah?

also the angle shown was just for illustatrations :D going to meaure the space i have and work out what sort of angle im going to be looking at and see if that will clear the bumper, if not then ill have to look at cutting up the pipework further along and welding back togeather

Dont see a issue with it......Depends what core you have and how wide, but I guess a 700mm wide core would be wide enough to get the end tanks angled.    Or...you can add a bit pipe to the actual cooler and extend it a bit with a curved section.

I can't see it making a flow difference as you know the pipework itself bends so this shouldn't in theory make a difference to the flow :)

Ah I see, is that why most of the pics popping up recently show people struggling to get the bumper back right at the bottom and can't make splitters re-fit?

I think ideally the cooler ends want making wider than the slam panel and curving round, but this is the issue with a budget universal kit, they don't fit anything really.

You won't effect flow by angling the outlets unless you went at sharp angles

I guess it depends on the size of the core and where the outlets are, if they are at a similar place to the upper pipe on your kit then in theory it'll fit through the crash bar but it'll be a b@stard to run the pipework :undecided:
