As per the title has anyone found a way to add camera alerts, preferably with audio warnings, to the new Discover Navigation unit in MK7 Golfs, ideally the PocketGPS database as that seems the most up to date.

Failing that any recommendations for a simple add on unit that has an up to date database that is not phone based.

See post on page 3 of this thread for update

Yes - 'Norbreck21a' - he posted info about it but you would have to do a search on his posts to find it - ony a couple of weeks ago I think.

you can't get audio alerts on the mk7 nav
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

You could try a TomTom unit.  All but the latest Go units can take the PGPSW database and give you various options and distances for the audible warning.  I have one on my current A3.  There is a post I've seen on this forum that shows you how to get a wire connection from the fuse-box and hide most of the wiring.  If you're are using it for navigation your need not have the unit mounted so that it is visible, just somewhere so that you can hear it and it can get a satellite signal.  If I take mine out of the car to update it using my computer I can still get a good satellite signal in the house so it may even work inside the glovebox or the small pocket on the drivers side.

I'm pretty sure only the Pro allows uploading of personal POI's (which I have used for my speed cameras), and as mcmaddy said, there's no audible alert, just visual.

Put the pgps app on your iphone/ipad and that gives you an audible warning.
You can use it by itself or with the discover nav

Does this discussion relate to just cameras you wish to add on as extra?

Does the nav not have any preloaded cameras which it alerts you to (albeit not audibly)?

No it does not come with a camera database.

Thanks, that does seem to be the response from all the sources I have tried, in any case not much use without voice/sound alerts. All in all a little disappointed that VW decided not to include/allow camera alerts which are considered by the UK authorities as a safety feature rather than an evasion system

Looks like I will have to stay with a separate device but which one? - I do not own, or need, a smart phone so that would be an expensive approach, will have to explore a hidden mounting for a separate SatNav just for Camera Alerts.

I will look into this as I do not want a visible dash mounted satnav which could attract the light finger brigade. If anyone has any ideas or has done this please post details - thanks

If you don't need a sat nav or smart phone, how about a dedicated camera warning device like the RoadAngel? :)
I agree, when spending £700+ or £1700+ for the VW units and for them to not even do this is poor.
I have heard a lot of people seem to be having units locking up on them etc
