So you have paid for Volkswagen navigation, and then mounted another unit on the windscreen  :lipsrsealed:

If you read the whole thread you will see why - the PocketGPS DB is the best way to avoid a NIP in the post as even the most alert driver can miss a limit sign or stray a few MPH over the limit and NIPs dont come cheap and thats without the automatic increase in insurance premiums for at least 3 years

I've taken a slightly different route!

I set the destination on the 'built in NAV' and turn the sound off/right down.

I then put the same location into my iPhone NAV (CoPilot) which has a very good (and regularly updated) speed camera database. I then select the 'Source' on the Media as iPod to play music, but it also announces direction and most importantly speed cameras!! Seems to be pretty much the same directions as selected on the Nav unit but I get the benefit of the big central screen etc.

Seems stupid I know and I'm annoyed speed cameras aren't included on the £1700 Nav Pro unit!! But at least I've found a workable solution.

A good common sense approach to get round a ridiculous situation. Full marks to you Chief

Aye it works well, same could be used for any of the iPhone Nav or Speed Camera apps, like TomTom etc. Pain if you want to switch your media to 'radio' or SD card, but for long trips I usually setup a decent playlist anyway.

Having a second Nav when you have spent £700 / £1,700 on a built in unit seems MAD - but at least my iPhone is hidden away and the announcements are nice and clear (better than the Pro unit IMO).

1. Was not aware that VW did not allow third party POI DBs to loaded - not the sort of question that springs to mind when ordering a new car, will next time!!

2. Do not have or want a Smart Phone so that option was not an option.

3. My solution works well enough for me at reasonable cost

I think they do allow POIs to be added. See here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=254044.0

However, there are no 'announcements' and you need to manually keep the DB up to date.

I'd seriously think twice about spec'ing the Pro Nav unit again because of this.

Let's HOPE a future update will solve this. Might be worth a few of us getting in touch with VWCS and complaining? Not sure it'd carry any weight, but they may be able to update us when/if this is resolved. Other POIs are on the units, which are kept up-dated through the bi-annual map updates.
