Amp getting permanant feed
« on: 24 November 2013, 17:30 »
Not sure why really. Just installed a new sub and amp, along with all new wiring (4 gauge), the headunit has a split connection for the remote, the smaller bit had "remote wire" on it so linked that to the remote wire I put in.

So my amp is all hooked up but with the remote lead plugged into it it's getting permanent power (doesn't go off with headunit).

Any ideas?

Is the split connection on the headunit? So the power has a remote lead coming off it?

Yeah the blue lead splits, one end goes to the headunit loom, the other to bare wire to connect up to a remote lead to the amp.

I'll get a pic

Ignore the blue lead on the pigtail and connect the the female connector (on the left) to the male (on the right), so all you are connecting is one single blue lead.

But the pigtail lead goes to my headunit, the connector to the far left goes to the original harness. That won't help surely?

I played around with it a bit this evening and now the amp won't turn in at all, think I've blown the main power gauge fuse.

Are you connecting the antenna lead (usually blue as well).  The remote lead tends to be blue with a white stripe.

Sorted it now.

First problem was the remote wire, it was faulty. Got a new wire installed to check it worked and it did. However the problem with connecting it to the remote lead output was still providing the amp with permanent power. So I tapped into the ignition live on the headunit wiring and all is well now. Goes off with headunit and goes on with it.

Bit a ballache but at least it's done now.

Thanks for your input dragonfly, I appreciate it.
