Because age and performance of the car are not the principal considerations when quoting a premium Gina!

I know, but the car is the only difference when applying for premium quotes. What makes the MK7 Golf GTi so much cheaper to insure than a 5 year old 1.8 Civic?

The front radar , city impact avoidance  reduces the insurance group by about 6 groups  so that must be a major reason for cheaper insurance

Another major factor in premiums is the underwriters claims experience from that particular make/model apart from the normal groupings etc

Was quoted £264 just over a month ago, had to renew yesterday and same firm (esure) took £296 - 9% rise in a month. 38y/o, 12 years no claims, 1 non fault accident 2 years ago (car hit my parked Scirocco whilst waiting for the wife outside her work) and 3 points for speeding (SP30), parked on driveway. Premium includes protected no claims and total excess of £200.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

£165 quote for the GTI.

Postcode has a lot to do with it. My 21year old daughter has just renewed her insurance on her Clio and got it for £260 with £70 cashback going via quidco. So £190 for a 21 year old!!

Profession also makes a difference. Have a look at this page as you can pick a profession similar to yours and save money.

Yes I agree. Geography has a lot to do with it - if you are in London or home counties it will be a higher premium regardless of car or individual.
