Latest Excuse for Build Delays
« on: 18 November 2013, 12:24 »
Just chased up my order to see why i havent got confirmed build week yet, and the dealer says he has heard that there are issues with the supply of standard GTD wheels, and that is causing further delays to GTD orders. If its not one thing, its another ! He said GTD's are generally taking a bit longer than GTi's, and that the dealer had to wait 5.5 months get his GTD demonstrator - so its not just us peeps that are having to wait !  Anyone else heard similar story ?
Ordered 9 Sep 13 - GTD 5 dr Manual, Tornado Red. Luckily Offered and accepted a cancellation, delivery est 2.12.13.

Frustrating though this is - there is no contractual build/delivery date when you order a car so claims for for failure to deliver when anticipated are not going to be entertained unless the other party is feeling generous. We are told indicative lead-in times and thats it! Short supplies of certain items will always be the case - ita been rear view cameras which affected some orders, now its wheel - which will affect a lot of orders potentially...

In your position (and I will be myself next year no doubt) I would instigate the loan car once the 20 week wait point comes up.

After my call to VW UK this morning,I said bu??er it will call me dealer to see what news he has today
Hello Doug how are you today, well am looking for some update on my Gti, Let's have a look shall we and see what staus we are at....
Looks like your starting to build it next Monday, and have been told this morning from Germany that they have taken in extra work force to push orders out before Xmas

So either VW UK is talking Bull $hi7 or my dealer is fulling my head of Bull $hi7......who do you trust????
But on the other hand, he asked if my trade in has a private plate, which it has!!...so he said I need your paperwork in as soon as you arrive home next week from offshore, so we can put the plate on retension for the new Gti....so to me swings it towards my dealer telling some truth
He also gave me the speal about the transport intpo the tyne and the time it should take to arrive.....so he was sounding positive for before a Xmas deliviery

Fingers crossed

Apparently VW waits to make up a quota (don't know the number) of sunroof orders before reconfiguring the production line, which can add some extra uncertainty to the build dates - but that does still sound a ridiculous lead time.  Get some miles on that courtesy car!!
