Were I in VW marketing, I'd be paying close attention to this story.
There's nothing worse than seeing one of your staunchest advocates on a very public forum - ordinarily very effective as a marketing tool for VW - having the experience Jimble has had.
We have a Mk5 DSG edition 30 (cracking car) and are eyeing up the next replacement. I very rarely am one of the 'early adopters', but we'll probably replace it next year - unless I can hold out for an edition 40. With stories like Jimble's the idea of hanging on to the old girl for another 2 years suddenly sounds very appealing, especially since the DSG works so well in our car.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing some good news soon from Jimble, who in the past has been worth his weight in gold to VW marketing!
Sort him out!

I appreciate that mate thanks, as i've said a few times now, my issues with the DSG box are more than likely down to me just not getting along with it rather than it being faulty, opinions vary greatly but i just don't think it suits the GTI, give one a go mate it may well be as good as your ED30.
Did they not paint tgat much to blend the paint in? You cannot just paint a panel you have to blend it unto neighbouring panels.
Imho I would reject it withiut questio and ask for a healthy discount on a manual R order as compensation
Yeah, they would've needed to blend it in although i think if they had just painted the A pillar and blended into the roofline it would've been fine once flatted back and polished, painting a big panel like the C pillar made it a hundred times worse! The A pillar actually looks OKish but not perfect, it actually like the clear coat they've used isn't clear and has a slight creamy hue and is very textured when compared to the original paint, once i pointed out the issues to the tech and brand manager they could see it easily and had a look of disbelief on their face.
I think you have to give them 3 chances to put it right Jimble. I had to let a paintshop do an Audi 3 times before I had the right to seek a different conclusion.
Worth talking to Trading Standards, I find them very helpful.
The brand manager didn't say anything about 3 chances, just said i need to speak to my dealer on monday to discuss what happens next?
My thoughts are, if you bought a shirt, got it home and found that it had a small tear in it you'd take it back and get a replacement, not expect the shop to sew it back up?
If they'd just done the pillar and i wasn't happy then fine but needing the side of the car repainting again imo is unacceptable. The other bits and bobs were fixed perfectly, ie the boot hinge and parking sensor, the dealers replaced the seal between the front and rear door which again is perfect.
