She was driving an 11 plate Vauxhall mpv - I don't know the name of it as its a heap.  But I would imagine it was still a £15k car originally.

Sense of proportion time. A five year old kid made a mistake but it's a five year old and making mistakes is part of being 5 years old, the mother should pay the bill (all of it). That quote above there, take a chill pill you're not driving a £200k hyper car, it's a golf and while it may be your pride and joy it's not that far up the echelons that you can sneer that much at a vauxhall owner. Crap happens, not worth having a stroke over.

+1. While it's very annoying and I've been there myself, it really isn't worth losing your mind over it. Suck it up and get it fixed. sh!t happens unfortunately.

I fee for both of you. It's the way the world is unfortunately, people tend not to care about other peoples possessions. I'm with MH put the two quotes to her and see what she says. If she still doesn't agree to it. Let your insurers now and do it through them.

Norbreck, stake out the car park every Friday in the hope you catch them. I've just noticed a scratch on my rear door handle about an inch luckily you can't really make it out.

To be honest I can't be arsed to pursue it any further.

I'm a firm believer in Karma, so hopefully what goes around comes around for the mindless dick !

See I'm over it already

Grrrrr. The Mum pays 100%. No debate. A lesson needs to be learned....

I must also becoming paranoid. I kid you not I parked up last week in a pretty busy car park and as I was getting out I noticed the car next to me had a child seat in the back, and it was on the side where I was parked. Yep. I moved my pride and joy.... How sad is that. I just had a horrible feeling that if I hadn't I would have returned to a dent or scratch and no note of apology !!!!

If someone is scatty enough to allow their child to open the door without supervision and damage another persons property then she should pay, she may not be so free and easy to let them do it again in the future as a result.  I would not let anyone get away with damaging my property if it was their fault.

A few years ago one of previous Civic Type-R's was parked in my Mother in laws drive.  Her drive is massive.  It is literally wider than a couldersack.  You could turn a large lorry around in it without hassle should you wish.  However an ex girlfriend of my brother in law was unsure of being able to reverse her car and turning it around in the drive.  She reversed straight in to the front of my car.  Damaged and scraped the bumper.  She came in to the house thinking that just mentioning she had hit a car in the drive was going to be enough to get away with it.  I flipped big time at her, if she's incompetent enough to reverse straight in to my car then she can pay for the damage.  My inlaws were protecting her a bit, but I thought to hell with it and tore shreds out of her for doing it.  I have had comments about it from her, ever since the incident.  But if she did it again I would tear more strips out of her.  The fact is you have paid you hard earned money for the car.  If someone else damages it they can pay for it, it's not your fault.  IF you let them get away with it they will just keep on doing it as they have not learned their lesson.

I would get a Volkswagen quote, present it to her, if she refused to pay then call your insurance company and let them claim off her insurance. Simples.

Some would even add a whiplash and time off work claim....

Thankfully that's being clamped down on now.

I can sneer all I want, it's a Vauxhall sh1tter and I stand by my opinion. Didn't realise I was having a stroke though? This 'sh1t happens' attitude is why scumbags do what they do and get away with it. And whether it cost 200k or 50p it's damage to someone else's property and unacceptable.

And in no way do I blame the child. It's 100% the mother's fault. And a sh1t mother at that clearly.

Our kids were never, ever allowed to open their own doors at that age for exactly this reason.

It's an anti social and couldn't care less attitude which does seem to be getting worse.
