In order of f7cked-off-ness:

1 The dent
2 The fact she didn't even offer to pay even some of the repair
3 The sob story
4 The 'you have a new car so you can afford it' attitude
5 The fact she didn't get her child to even apologise
6 The fact she lets her 5 year old open the door unassisted

  In fact, they all f7ck me off!

I'll be getting her to pay I think.  Thanks all!

PS Yeah if I had got a VW approved quote then it would be at least double that - which I'll do if she quibbles this quote.

attitude after something like that often dictates the outcome for me, if their blaze and unapologetic, bleed them dry

I think you chaps are bang on.  Apparantly my missus sees her every night when picking up the little 'un from the after school club - and she will be demanding the money from her.  And if any of you remember the whole debacle with my car, you know that my missus gets results

But you are all bang on, if the shoe was on the other foot I would have paid up straight away - clearly people's values are not the same.

Sh1t, I feel for you bud........if it was me, I'd have gone ballistic (and probably got nicked for threatening behaviour).

Firstly, well done sir for showing restraint in front of all the others kids and mum, that must have been really difficult. Secondly, if it's a dent AND paint work damage, it doesn't sound like it's going to be cheap (probably several hundred pounds), so it's looking like an insurance claim to me. Did you get her details (name address and insurance) ?

**edit** just noticed you have a quote and a very reasonable one at that. Also agree with everyone else, she should pay the full cost.

After all the pi55ing around we had with VW and delay after delay, it's not the sort of thing anyone wants - surely that's what child locks are for anyway ?

If it makes you feel any better (which I know if won't), it must be silly Friday, as I went to a shopping centre at lunch, and when I came back, had a scratch on my drivers door (right near the swage line) down to the shiny metal where some tw@t has damaged my car. No note nothing. A guy parked nearby said there was a flat back transit that pulled up, and the guy got a ladder out towards my car from the back. I asked if he got a number plate or a company name, but he didn't get the plate (said he couldn't see if from where he was), and it was plain white with no livery !!!

Checked with the centres security to see if they had CCTV (which they do), but nothing on my car. So the ba5tards got away with it !!! Fecking 8 weeks old !!!

For the time being, I've just topped it up with a touch up stick to protect the metal from the elements  - luckily no dent. Am I happy........what do you think

Matchboy:

I wouldn’t keep asking for the money. I would present her with the proper full rate quote, then the mates quote and tell her that if she wants to pay the mates rate to avoid insurance then you expect the money within 3 days (before work starts). If you haven’t had it within 3 days then go through the insurance to get it done.

I’m sure your missus will only have to ask once. Why do I get the impression your wife would beat Biffa Bacon’s mam in a fight?

Norbreck, that’s a bugger for you. No chance the Transit is a regular visitor (like cleaning windows or maintenance at the centre with that ladder of theirs)?
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Gutted for you Norbreck, must be the day for it.  Wtf is wrong with these people, does anyone have any respect or manners anymore, or has it dissappeared with this chav culture we live in?!  Stories like this with your car only fuel my anger - utter, utter (unts.

Yes MH, she is from Leyton in London - which basically means don't mess

Hey, my family hails from Leyton (just opposite Leyton orients ground), although I was born in the less salubrious end of town that's Newham (near West ham's Ground)

MH, I asked that very question if they had a contractor working and they said not that they were aware of unless one of the shops was doing something and there about a 100 of them !

I'm not going to let it get me down, (don't let the ba5tards grind you down) as otherwise I'll go mental. I'm trying to be pragmatic as I can be, which for those that know me with my fiery temper, know that's not easy ! . At the end of the day, it is just a car (albeit a 4 month late over priced car   ), and there are far worse things happening in the world.

TBH, as the car's white, the touch up stick has done a reasonable good job, and a blind man on a galloping horse would be hard press to notice. I've actually be wanting to have a go at wet sanding paintwork for a while (as I have a DA and a Rotary),so might be the time so properly touch it up slightly proud, flatten it back with wet sanding, then polish back to a mirror finish (If I've got the balls)

For those that don't know what I'm on about, see this thread over on DW:

She was driving an 11 plate Vauxhall mpv - I don't know the name of it as its a heap.  But I would imagine it was still a £15k car originally.

Sense of proportion time. A five year old kid made a mistake but it's a five year old and making mistakes is part of being 5 years old, the mother should pay the bill (all of it). That quote above there, take a chill pill you're not driving a £200k hyper car, it's a golf and while it may be your pride and joy it's not that far up the echelons that you can sneer that much at a vauxhall owner. Crap happens, not worth having a stroke over.

That's not really the point though is it John ?

It would seem like Matchboy was very well behaved in not loosing his temper in front of the kids and the mums, however that doesn't mean it's not bloody annoying as hell (I know the feeling) !

Doesn't matter if the car is a Golf, a Veyron or a Fiat Panda, it was brand new purchased with hard earned money, and even though it's not at the upper echelons of vehicle status, a £25-30k car, is still a major life changing decision for most, and if someone damages it, someone has to pay. Be it the 5 year old or the mum, yes, I'm sure it was a total 100% accident, most are, however I agree that a 5 year old should have been better supervised when around other vehicles. That's why we have insurance.

That's the beauty of these forums, keep your cool in the real world, and vent your anger and dissapointment to your Pals on the forums, who as car nuts themselves, will totally understand (well most of them anyway )
