It's all very well and good getting a racing driver to test a car designed for the road on a track and complain about the driving experience.

I'm a Tiff fan, but sometimes I feel these racing driver journalists miss the point and fail to see the bigger picture when reviewing a car.

I love hooning it down a back road as much as many of us here (we wouldn't have bought GTI's/GTD's if we just wanted to plod about!) but for 90% of the time when I'm driving about in traffic or slogging it up the motorway, I'm looking for a supple ride and good mid-range torque, coupled with a gearbox that enhances progress!

Chris Harris gets it right a lot of the time and is able to deliver a well rounded review... Hence the reason why he loves the GTI!

It's the same with most of these motoring journalists. If the car doesn't have the potential to kill you then it's rubbish

I don't think its on tonight. It was on 520 at 12pm today and 521 at 1pm today. Next airing is Sat 9 Nov at 3pm on 520 and 4pm on 521, then Monday 11 Nov at 7pm on 524 according to the sky tv guide

Overall, this is disappointing rubbish, but I can see the point Tiff is making.

If I'd wanted a hard core vehicle I'd have purchased a Focus ST, but the comfort of the ride in most situations was a primary concern. My other current car is a MINI Countryman CS All4 which rides punishingly enough to be called a "real" peformance car by people who like to think that a hard ride is the equivalent to a sporty drive, even though it's way slower than the GTI.

As for sliding around on public roads, just see how well that goes down with your local constabulary...
