Never mind the Mk7, we all knew what Tiffany was going to say about that. What got me was Ray Partner's "concourse" Mk2. It picks up trophies left right and center, yet looks like this underneath.

I'm too ashamed to enter mine because it looks like that... at the moment.

Yes they are different cars but as others have said if you are driving at Needell speeds on the public highway you will need all the help you can get

Its official then. Mk7 GTi's are sh!te.

I expect the Mk5 and 6 forum to become busier from here on in.

I would just treat is at what the show represents. 10/10ths and the Golf may be wanting, but surely the Golf was always intended to be the best compromise of performance and everything else, which is exactly what it is.

A bloody good all round hot hatchback, unlike the other compromised cars within its peer group.

watched this last night as a result of seeing this thread. Didnt read the comments on here as i didnt want to spoil it but i expected a decent review and a comparable bunch of tests against other current gen hot hatches like the ST but instead all we get is Tiff b!tching and moaning about the stability control. Very disappointed, hopefully Clarkson will see the review and demand Top Gear do a proper tv one to counter it.

Nothings changed. When the Mk2 was new, it was outpaced by the Escort RS Turbo and Astra GTE, out handled by the 205 GTI and looked quite somber compared to all of the other hot hatches, but the Golf was the car we all aspired to.

Also when was the last time you saw a Mk3 Escort, Mk2 Astra or a Peugeot 205 on the road? I reckon you'll see a Mk2 Golf most days. That says a lot.

Not nice to have your new pride and Joy slagged off on TV ,However , If he was reviewing track cars for the 0.01%
of the population likely to corner at 100mph and risk binning it ,only Plato is Brave enough to ride with him most of the time, then he is right .
However, want to have a top quality ,Cool ,and Safe Hot Hatch ,with the pedigree of a Royal poodle !!!! GOLF GTI

i wouldn't worry about it having driven 5/6/7 on same roads back to back the Mk7 GTI was the more planted with better feedback and quicker despite less power

edition 30 owners are feeling smug but not everyone want to drive a car that is 6-7 years old

in reality has anyone how has come from a 5, 6 or Rocco said that it was the better car

keep the faith

Think most would see it as a positive in that Tiff was driving it pretty rapidly and probably well beyond limits any of us would come close to on the road and he still could not get it out of shape.

That is reason I have the Quattro and have gone for the GTD as that is what I am seeking so Tiff review gave me even more assurance than already had.

There is a Youtube review somewhere of an ST against a GTI on a track and the ST is all over the place and ended up being slower around the track. Sliding might be 'fun' on a track but on a road it is last thing you want.

Chris Harris review is most balanced seen based on road driving.

I like Tiff for what he can do to a car, it is fun to see a car taken to it's limit on a track and I agree for that purpose all driving aids should be selectable to be switched off, even if there is an on screen disclaimer when doing so but I would never take his view on a car for the road as that is not where his passion lies

Who actually cares what some has been hack thinks?? It's a sh1t show anyways, on a cr@p channel and hardly anyone watches it! All that matters is if you like the car - which if you haven't got your hands on it yet, trust me you will!  If you have got yours, you know it's the nuts!
