The R is now on the VW Configurator. My dream spec came to £39,115  It least my GTI should be built this week

Top of the range model and no dynaudio available to spec. The mind boggles.

Echoes of the "no pano roof with santiagos" debacle with the GTI, although you can get the Pretoria19s on the R with the pano roof so it seems. Bizzare.
Also there is nothing bizarre about the pano roof/19s. The main reported reason that these 2 options cannot be specced together is that it would push the gti into the next tax bracket.

Interesting.  My dealer told me he questioned it and vw  tech said it pushed the axle weight over the design limit and upsets the handling.  Not sure I believed that tbh.

This was supposedly why you couldn't spec the mk6 gti with 19" wheels and sunroof - increased the kerb weight too much.

Difficult to keep the cost under £35K, I would want Dynaudio (having got used to it in my current Scirocco). But as I am not currently looking to replace, I would expect it to be an option at some stage.

Mine came out at a shade over £35k (added on the Dynaudio at £525 as its a must) - that's a lot of money for a Golf, even for one as quick as that

Mine came out between £38-40.5k, way too much money.... I think the 30k barrier was the most I was willing to pay for a 3dr hatchback  and I do love my toys.

I agree, 30K tops for a hatchback.  But if there was a discount on offer I'd be seriously tempted!

Nice car! But like you all say, hatchback car going over the £30,000 bracket is nuts, + this is not a true 4wd system. Give me the LSD over that anyday. Just my opinion though!
