Exactly what my dealer told me.

You have to realise that its in Volkswagens best interests to produce as many as they can
As mentioned previously, dealers and marketing point towards low numbers of cars being produced to get people putting deposits / orders in as they think its a limited run.
All comes down to demand and supply.

There is a handful of dealers with enough clout to order what they want , Sales Talk and mis Info is staggering so
are dealers who take orders with no Allocation of cars ,sometimes hoping to get them elsewhere in their group .
MK6 R ' s were always tight , I waited a Year for one ( Big Group ) only at the end did they release some for stock.
One Guy said the dealer changed the demo spec to his ,well if they are so free why not get more (except for time )
It's not known yet exact dates of the first batch of R's .

When are we likely to see the press reviews start?

Not sure but EVO have reviewed the new Audi S3 which the Golf R shares it's parts with. A pretty average review, doubt VW group have cracked it with this generation of the Haldex system.
It's a shame VW didn't add the VAQ to the Golf R to dial out the understeer.

Ok will take a look - I would think the R will be more driver focused than the S3 - maybe wrong though.

Will the R get ACC? The price list says "over the GTI/GTD" so i'd assume so but none of the pics have had it yet and it's a fantastic system for the motorway!

I don't think it does, nor will it have part assist. Not 100% sure but I think is because of the different bumper designs.

I'm somewhat confused about the "Over the GTI" list in the specs.

R Sports suspension "Lowered by 15m" Does this mean it's lower than the GTI by a further 15mm?

Bi-Xenon headlights, that's the same as the GTI?

Carbon-Touch inserts in dash and door panels, the GTI has this?

Leather trimmed three-spoke MFSW, GTI has this...

So what you basically get is all the GTI badges replaced with R badges, cosmetically and a few changes on the splitter, side skirts and an extra 2 exhausts.
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

Not sure about the suspension but it describes the Xenons as having the "Double U" design, steering wheel as having the R badge instead of the GTI, and the dash inserts in the GTI are called Cyclone not Carbon, it isn't a great deal different though.
