Still have issues
« on: 01 November 2013, 10:36 »
Hi guys,

I was having an issue with blue smoke which seemed to now go away.
I was out in it last night as it was low on oil so I did a new filter, new oil replacement which was due anyway.

Anyway, I have noticed now that there is no smoke, but the car is massively underpowered, its stage 2 K03s and seems worse than my K03 was on a stage 1.
I did the usual checks - cant see any boost leaks, doesn't seem to be any better when the MAF is unplugged etc.
Scanned for codes and found no faults....

Does anyone else have any ideas I can try?
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

Blue smoke = oil

Get a compression test done on the engine to be on the safe side,  but I would be guessing that its more likely the oil seals have gone on the turbo

compression is fine according to the garage  :undecided:
So am I looking at turbo out and a rebuild before I even know it that's the issue? any other suggestions from anyone?

You can pick up a k03s quite cheap, whip off the turbo pipes, hot and cold side, if the seals have gone it will be obvious

but surely if the seals were gone it would always blue smoke?

The blue smoke has gone now, in the other thread I made, I mentioned the car had been stood a little while and then did a 200 mile round trip and it was fine then I went out a few days later and there was a bit of blue smoke on start up and then it went.....

I'm just experiencing a loss of power now and the car isn't boosting as much as it used to

Just an idea, but valve stems? If oil is pooling and being burnt off on startup I guess that could make sense? I don't know the steam sealing on these heads but my old Escort used to burn a lot of oil owing to a few knackered stem seals.
I thought Volkswagens were supposed to be reliable?

Im going to be trying to solve this tomorrow, going to remove the TIP at the turbo end to see what state the wheel is in and then ill try the basics, swapping all the plugs and testing again, removing the MAF and go from there

So did all I said I would, couldn't notice anything untoward so thought I'd take it down the road, left the car on the drive a good 15-20 minutes on tick over to get warm first.
So was driving slowly, no new noises, booted it a bit and a cloud of white smoke from the exhaust and the cat was shuddering like a coil pack had gone down, any ideas? Fooked turbo ?

I had white smoke when the K04-001 had cracked allowing coolant in, smoked quite a bit on idle and when booting it.
