people with lowered cars please help
« on: 30 October 2013, 14:46 »
hi,
so i got my car lowered yesterday on coilovers... i told the garage who did it to go as low as they could without the arches scrubbing.... big mistake.
today i went down a road with speed bumps!! the car literally got stuck on a bump. the sills are only an inch off the floor and had to drag the bottom of the car over it
now i realize i will have to raise it but if i raise it the cars going to have an arch gap again. how low have you all gone and how to you manage day to day with a lowered car?

When i had my civic that was slammed always angle over bumps so not to get stuck and just avoid potholes low and slow

yeah i tried angling it but it was too thin and just wrecked the bottom of the car. ive always wanted to get a coilover kit and slam my car but now im thinking this is more trouble than it was worth. handles great but blimey its a pain in the bum. gotta drive everywhere 20mph looking for bumps in the road!

Take them at an angle or if it's those silly square ones go between 2 of them so you don't catch underneath. The car looks great low, don't raise it

Gotta say i love the look, i recently slammed my mk3 cabrio too, slow and low is the best way. I think it is actually illegal to raise your suspension once its been slammed.

I have about another 1 1/2 " on the front and 2" on the rear, but not brave enough yet, i find myself doing lots of three point turns and finding new ways to get to places without speedbumps/potholes.

on another note, what wheels are they ?

It would look better with the back raised a little.

yeah i think im going to give it a go and raise the rear a little 2moro. thats if i can find a way of getting the jack under it!
the wheels are Brock B2s, they are 9" wide so look really wide, love em. They are only 16s though and with the really skinny tyres obviously without it being so slammed it gives a massive arch gap which is annoying. Maybe i might think of swapping the wheels at some point but i wonder whether i could put any bigger profile tyres on em? can anyone advise on this? At present they are 215/35/16

the speedbumps that gave me issues are the ones at shopping centres that are evil, all the way across the road and very thin but high so theres no angle you could go over at which wouldnt scrape. looks like im shopping online!

I would also say raise the back end a touch. Would not look any worse and would clear. Mine scraped the same and when I changed my wheels I raised the back a bit and no probs now
