Stop/Start

Hi folks,

Took delivery of my GTD on Friday and its awesome. I do have a quick question. Can you permanently disable the start stop function instead of having to turn it off all the time?

You might have to ask one of the VCDS wizards like Norbreck21.

For me, I allow it to do it’s stuff if the car is likely to be stopped for 20 seconds, but otherwise I stop at the lights/roundabout etc with my clutch pedal dipped to keep it running.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

You do get used to it after time.

Is yours manual or DSG?

Not sure if it can be permanently disabled but you do get used to it after a while. I can only comment from a manual point of view but i've found it to be excellent so far. There has been the odd occasion for some reason when the engine has not cut out which has left me slightly confused .

Does it work in the same way as Mk6 BMT cars, in that you needed to select neutral and lift off the clutch for the engine to stop? If that's the case, there's no real hardship is there? Not like my DSG Passat that stops the engine the instant the car comes to a stop.

That’s exactly how it works, so I keep my clutch dipped if the static wait is going to be a short one and I don’t want the car to stop. For a manual, doing this is more flexible – you can take advantage of stop start when the wait is going to be long, and not when it is going to be short.

With the DSG it depends on how hard you push the brake pedal once the car has stopped, if you press it just enough to hold the car it doesn't cut out but if you press a little firmer it will.

Unless it can be disabled with VCDS then no it can't, but as Dubber says if it only cuts out when in neutral and the clutch lifted then it's no big deal really? By the time you've put it back into gear your up and running.

You can do it using one of these....

My guess would be it is possible with Vag-Com if you find the right coding as this unit is a quick coder for stop/start.

CraigW, as far as I know the start stop will sometimes not work if the engine is not up to the required temperature. There are other quirks as well as I think it wont work if you engage any gear before starting the engine. Maybe someone will prove me wrong.

I pick up my GTD tomorrow, I'm off to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
