First real minor critisim of the MK7
« on: 21 October 2013, 09:35 »
Well this weekend we had rain like the world was coming to an end  :grin:

Drove the car on the Motorway at 55 in the first lane, as you just couldn't see enough to drive faster safely (although many were). Luckily my wipers were fine and not smearing, just sheer volume of water.

When the wife and I went back out about an hour or so later, as soon as we got in the car, it misted up completely. Now we were in dry cloths (not damp), and the rubber mats had the lightest bit of moisture on them from getting in the car. To be fair put the aircon on, and within seconds, the windscreen was clear, but as soon as I turned the AC off, it started misting again. Checked the car when we got home (under the mats, seats, boot etc), and no damp patches anywhere, so don't think there's a leak in the car. My Scirocco used to mist up, but not as badly or quickly as the GTD did on Saturday night. Anyone else experience this ?

Checked again on the Sunday (whilst I was cleaning the car), and sure enough it was bone dry inside, and when I drove it later, no signs of misting ?

Did you check air recirculation wasn't turned on? That's a bugger for misting up cars!

It was set to Auto, so just assumed the car would change as required ? Perhaps I'll set it back to manual and see if it fairs better.

good call 5-0  :smiley:

Although I've not got my GTD yet, my Ford Focus ST has this problem since I've had it. Any rain at all, the whole car mists up, requiring the air con to be on. I think it seems to be a way of life when the rain is on  :rolleyes:

Try this stuff, you can't prevent it but you can attempt to minimise it;

Had this issue with the mk 5 and mk 6 - no idea why but the car windscreen mists up all the time; stick the blowers on and it clears, 2 mins later its misted up again.  Highly irritating as never happened in my other cars (non VW) - but used to it now  :laugh:

I had this with my last BMW too and just used to leave the air con on all the time but I guess this dents the fuel economy a bit?

why are people turning the air con off? leave mine on all the time in auto mode and if the screen fogs up (which it does) just blast it with the screen button.

I've found that any car I've had its been the air con that has caused it.

If the windows are misted up and I put the air con on it clears it in seconds but as soon as the air con goes off it mists straight away.
However if I put the blower on it takes a couple of minutes to clear it but it stays clear when i put the blower off.

The air con for me is a never ending cycle. Without using it, my windows never fog up unless i get into the car with wet clothes but the blower soon takes care of that.
