Just phoned FK in Germany, spoke to a nice knowledgable English guy called David,
I explained the situation and he is arranging me a pair of these to be sent to me

like I said they may lower the front a bit but should be easy to make a spacer between spring plate and bearing

Yeah I looked at those very FK lowering spring plates too on the CarpartsTuning site as it had the same style as my old ones and looked wider too.

I sent them a message enquiring as to whether they would fit mine but all i got was:

"sorry but these use the original spring plate we do not have them for this kit.

As for the other item I have no info as to if they fit the spring or not."

I also googled the FK part number FKFT17 and ended up with images of the spring plates that i already had..

e.g. (http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/cheap/232363/volkswagen/eibach-multi~pro~r2-coilovers/fkft17.html)

...so i left it :( but hey the images in that link above could be wrong.

Would be very interested in what turns up at your door when you get them though :)

I think I found the right part!

It was part 1H0412341. Were about £20 inc VAT each from main dealer (not exactly cheap!)

It is taller than the original but not by much. Fits top of spring and top mount bearing perfect and is same style.

Here's how they compare to original spring plates and how they look fitted to:

FK FKZZVW10 sports dampers
FK FKVW075 40mm lowering springs
(www.carparts-tuning.co.uk/‎)

In hindsight i would've tried to find a lowering spring set that fits the later smaller MK3 Golf spring plates (??) or a cheap set of coilovers but hey this is where i'm at.

How it looked on my car:

Also the FKFT17 lowering spring (www.carparts-tuning.co.uk/‎) plates were the same size as my original spring plates so are the smaller ones!

Maybe FKFT15s are the larger ones but i couldn't be nothered to buy any more only to be dissapointed and from what the description says about them on the website i doubt they're the ones either :(
