Today I have been quoted 25 weeks for delivery of the following specification:

I purchased in the first week of October and was quoted 25 weeks.

Got a.call from my dealer this morning confirmed build week is 46 (10.11.2013) so we are way ahead of schedule and he reckons the car could be with us before the new year.

He said that vw have changed their production line and staff scheduling for the last quarter of 2013 to meet huge demand for golfs. There are many others on here who ordered in September and already have their build weeks.

You have a high spec car that may hold.up.yours an extra week or two at most.

Based on that price and the waiting time you would be mad not to wait for the R to come out

IMO there's a certain price point above which the GTI just doesn't make sense and that is round about £30k. You start to go over this figure then you entering territory where there are better options.

The winter pack is not worth it as you get heated seats as standard with the leather seats and you have to have headlight washers with xenons by law. The only thing you get is water indicator.

I'm on that 30k limit (list price). I'm bloody glad for discounts and VAT free purchasing!!

Based on that price and the waiting time you would be mad not to wait for the R to come out

To get a similar spec R you will be looking at well over £40K , My last R was £43K list ,and not so many deals on them,
as numbers allocated to dealers will be far less than GTI / GTD .
If the new R is as big in the plus department as the GTI is over the MK6 ,and having lived with one for 2 years ,you would
need a new Porcshe Turbo to get to the welsh coast  any faster than the new R  The cross country pace of
the Mk6 R was staggeringly Quick in the real World
