I'm looking at VRs atm and have seen a few really good ones for just under 2k.
However all have had 500 quids worth of bodywork on them, good from a far but far from good.......
I will not go over 2k all in so I need to spend no more than a grand.

100% vr6 will be a classic. But wont go for big money even in 20 years.

This is why I sold mine and invested my money into a low mile e36 m3 evolution

all mk3's seem to be on a bit of a rise value wise lately (well one's that don't need tonnes of work!)

VR6 seem to be around £1800, anniversary around £1500 and normal gti's back around £1000.
I agree lots cheaper but no where near as many as a year ago (maybe even the start of this year), and looking at mk2's they seem to be he same, a fair few chepo's are around and the rest at what I call silly prices! (£2500+ for an use-able but not show 8v)

Mark 3's are rising in value a bit lately and will become a desirable classic in a good few years. The VR's are a damn good motor and seem to be weekend toys more lately due to the cost of running one. I love mine and use it daily and hopefully will not owe me anywhere near whats its worth. Insurance companies seem to be agreeing silly money valuations as well so something must be happening on the market

The Anni will be considered a classic before the Vr6. Especially if its a 16v

The one in the link is nice but still well overpriced, mk3's are a long way from classic status.

my insurer disagree's (and so does Volkswagen driver magazine who listed my mk3 as a classic!!)

well I suppose It's old enough now, although classic is a hard to describe thing (hence the mk3 inclusion)

My Anni was insured as a classic. And the agreed valuations now are crazy. My current VR has an agreed valuation that I could never sell it for. Seems daft but its worth more if I have a none fault claim that writes it off. They are not classics just yet but at the insurance valuation rates they are getting there. My old 8v was wrote off in 2010 and even bulk standard the insurance company gave me 1200 quid when they were even more common and could be picked up for 500 quid

Depends on the insurance company. When I was renewing in September one company valued my mk3 automatic at £800 (i am not joking) while another company valued it at £215. Realistically it will be in the middle I think at around £350-500? But one on ebay recently went for £155 with 5 1/2 months of tax so for free almost. Like anything -in the eye of the beholder...
