On the abs/tyre systems I've used the under inflated tyre(s) rotate faster. We used the same system to spot 4wd turn in lockup and trailer over loading, so its quite a useful thing really!

I must admit I thought from reading the brochure back in April that the gtd and gti came with the proper tyre pressure system and not the crappy abs one. the abs one is ok but it's cheap and not what I was expecting on delivery.

Those proper sensor ones are usually ruined by the tyre changing monkeys on your first or second tyre change - just ask anyone with a "high end" Renault Laguna.

the sensors need replaced anyway after a few years so it would require a bit of work I would think.

Just interest sake the easiest way to tell if it is direct or indirect is to look at the tyre valves. The indirect system has normal rubber valves and the direct system has aluminum valves.

Except if your car is a Peugeot... My current (just ordered  GTI) has plastic caps and the valve itself is made from hard plastic which tends to break!!! Had two cracked and changed them for normal ones and all of a sudden I had a car with TPMS and no sensors at all

Just to revisit this thread for information purposes, I had the tyre pressure warning come on this weekend.  I've probably done around 5k miles I think (car is 4 months old now).

Anyway, checked all the tyres and they're all on 38; fuel cap says 41 but that doesn't sound right to me as the chances of all 4 tyres losing the same pressure at the same time is highly unlikely.

Reset the system via the 'Car' setting and now all is hunky dorey.  Hopefully

I had the pressure light come on at about the 3000 mile mark, which was 50 miles or so after swapping the wheels and tyres for winters.

This was about a 10 days ago - I reset it and it hasn't come back since.
