Low Tyre Pressure Warning

Well after 62 miles I have my first warning light come on

I am being told I have to check the pressure in my front right tyre due to loss.

It happened just near to work so carried on and parked up, tyre does not look like its lost any major amount of air, looks the same as all the others.

Not got a pressure gauge to cjeck it, will try and do it at lunch.

Is this warning telling me its gone below the correct setting by a certain ammount? Seems a bit strange given its just had a thorough VW PDI

Sounds like you have a slow puncture. The same happened on my Mini, all the tyres looked fine but when I checked one only had 8psi in it. When looking closer I found a screw in the tread.

I had it repaired for £10.

Update ............

Checked all 4 tyres and they are all reading the correct pressure so have gone into the car setup and reset indicator.

Quick call to VW, if it does it again then its going in for a check over

The car does not know what the correct pressures are. The system compares the pressure in the tyre to the others on the car - it does this by using the ABS sensors (because an under-inflated tyre turns slightly slower than a properly inflated one).

It could be that you have a slow puncture (a nail or a screw would be favourite).

It could be that the system just needed to be set (it can take it a while to calibrate itself) because the dealer either didn't or didn't do it right

It could be an electronic fault - I doubt this because if it were you'd be seeing issues with the ABS, stability control, traction control etc.

If it is the first, get it repaired (if the puncture isn't too close to the side wall) it will be fine. If the second, and you've set it correctly... then you'll be fine. If it is the third, then it is a warranty issue...

I thought the mk7 had actual pressure sensors rather than using the abs sensor? I might have made it up though? Doesn't the new Passat have pressure sensors too?

If it's got actual sensors it would give the exact pressure in each tyre in the MFD. In South Africa the specs list indirect tyre pressure monitoring system for the GTI

As I understand it, though, if you have to 'set' the system then you are using an indirect system (abs sensor based), if not you are using a direct (sensor in wheel) system. Having said that, if the system can identify which the under-inflated tyre is then it points to a direct system...

As per the manual, you inflate your tyres to the required pressure and tell the detection system that these are correct by reseting. I can only assume that due to all the tyres being the same pressure that somewhere along the line this has not been done by the dealer. It definately specified the front right tyre which as per your link would suggest a Direct System, setting it up though would suggest Indirect System

Home without any issues, been out for the mrs to have a drive also and all OK, she has it tomorrow so please god let's hope that warning light don't come on as it tells you to stop immediately and she will, anybody on the M180 tomorrow morning keep an eye out for her stopped in the fast lane with her arms folded

The indirect system will also show which tyre as the abs controller knows which tyre is turning slower.
