Clutch pedal stuck to the ground?
« on: 28 September 2013, 15:30 »
So I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but I hope someone could shine some light on a fellow Golf owner;

I was driving home happily oblivious to what was going to happen, anyway, pulled upto a set of lights and my clutch pedal literally stuck to the ground, and I couldn't change gear the Only way I got home was to power shift

Please help

If its a MK4, probably the clutch pedal has snapped. Common on MK4's and happened to me when I had mine too..

Bit of a nightmare to fit a new one as youve got little bits in and little space!

If it's a MK3 I would put my money on saying the pressure-plate has been pierced by the rod that presses against that, I have had that happen to me and then the clutch was stuck to the floor as you mentioned.
or possibly the clutch cable jammed..  :whistle:

Sorry, it's a mk4 1.8 (180bhp) model and I've been reading about the cylinder sharing with the brakes if that helps?
I check under the hood too and I can see some sort of fluid on top of the clutch housing? Near where the actually clutch operation is

Are there little pieces if plastic in the footwell? If so as Dom and others said above snapped clutch pedal. They have a little square tack welded for safety in a crash. But that means with age it weakens and eventually snaps.

It's fairly easy to change but a fiddly bugger, you need someone with small hands to help you
