As it's now Friday of my build week, should I be concerned my car hasn't moved into 'Build in progress' yet?

Thx

Further to my post this morning I contacted my dealer, here's what he said:

"Your Golf is in production, the first check point of eight was completed yesterday."

What does first check point of eight mean?

Thx

Mine too. Dealer was able to see something their end that lead them to say "hmmm so they are building it the week they said they would". Here's hoping for a tracker update come Sunday. Doesn't time go incredibly slowly in these situations!...

Hi, having spent most of my working life in car plants, the check points are probably tracking points associated with the build process... typically these are Launch into Body in White (welding the shell), Into Paint, Out of Paint, Onto Assembly, Off Assembly (or off tracks), Customer Acceptance (Final Inspection), Pass to Sales . I know there are only 7 points on here, but these are the main process steps in any car assembly point. Therefore, if yours has just gone past step one, the body is being welded and on its way to paint..! The biggest challenge for any car plant is keeping the build sequence through the paint shop. (I have run paint plants at Land Rover and Aston Martin  :smug:) so once you are through paint, you should be on a home run .... Hope this helps

There is a really good video somewhere of a GTI in build and much as you describe and I know there is delays etc but have to admit it all looks pretty impressive.

Used to repair forklifts and one contract was at the Rolls Royce plant in London and they used to wheel the car from one area to another so a person could hand stitch this or hand scribe that or insert a certain part. Those cars were genuinely crafted by some very skilled people and used to spend quite a bit of time there just watching and I used to feel a little inadequate skill wise repairing a forklift.

They'd have been in trouble without you to fix the forklift though

So I guess those BW40's not yet in transit can expect to see the tracker tick over to build in progress overnight tonight.

Emailed my dealer for an update today and he confirmed my build hasn't started yet
Rejected - MK7 Golf GTI 5dr - Pure White - Hailstorm damaged (Ordered 24th April)
