Reverse Lights not working on 1.8T
« on: 18 September 2013, 18:44 »
Hello all, I'm looking to become a regular here so it's a shame my first post is about a problem really.

I picked up my 1.8t GTI on Saturday, luckily the only problem that needed fixing were some bulbs for the rear lights.
The normal rear light bulbs have been changed and now work perfectly fine, however the reverse lights still don't kick in.

Initially I thought it could be a burnt out fuse as the bulbs had gone black. However, I've had a look at the fuse (cheers to whoever posted that diagram of the fusebox on this forum!) and it appears to be fine from what I can see.
I will try and pick a spare 10A fuse up on Friday when I finish work early to nip round the shops, just to double check that my eyes aren't deceiving me.
But my question is whether there are any common faults regarding this issue that may not be the fuse?

A friend mentioned it could be a switch through the gearbox but I'll be honest in saying what kind of work is involved in checking that is beyond my knowledge.

Any advice would be appreciated!

My money would be on the reverse light switch on the gearbox. See here for more info:
