Check for vaccum leaks, boost leaks, maf sensor, correct throttle cable adjustment and most importantly give the car a scan and post the codes if any.

Does the rev limiter kick in early, remember reading on hear that on limp mode the limiter can kick in at 3500 or 4500 if on fully limp mode, there is partial limp mode apparently as well.
