Should I be mad or happy?
« on: 27 August 2013, 02:17 »
I was away for the weekend and my dad offered to fix my car as it was driving like crap.

I said the following:

1. I wanted the wobble/vibration fixed when going over 40mph as it was extremely bad
2. The front brake discs were pitted but said to only get a quote and not replace them because the current ones were working really well still and wanted to price them myself as thinking about fitting uprated ones as its mapped.

I get back and told its cost
£84.58 parts
£95.42 labour
£180

If I got the parts online it would have been £97.68 or £87.68 with cashback

I wasnt happy over the fact that I specifically said I just wanted them priced up and not replaced to come home and told its costing me £180 for fitting breaks and doing work I specifically didnt ask for!

I then check out the parts that they fitted and they seem to be all budget parts.

So am I being a spoilt brat and shouldnt even mention it and be happy they he has sorted it while I'm away or should I mention that I am unhappy with "budget" parts being fitted and take it on the chin for next time?

Feedback welcome on parts tah

think you have answered your own question, if you wanted it done a certain way you should have sorted it yourself. your dad has got parts that have solved the issue but just not to your spec.

Is the car fully fixed and working ? if so at the end of the day its working again and your pops went out of his way to take it to be fixed!

If the car is just as bad as it went in I would have been annoyed!

You have to be careful here your dad has gone out of his way and prob feels happy with himself that he has fixed your car if you say something your dad may feel under appraised and decide he won't help you again. Take on the chin and learn that in the future do it yourself. :)

Being a dad myself I wouldn't appreciate either of my daughters (when they are old enough to drive obviously) having a whinge about me doing them a favour like that...

^^^This!! How many people would appreciate a dad that would go out of their way to help you. They are obviously issues that have got worse with time, and haven't happened over night. Therefore, maybe you should have sorted it out a while back, to a spec that you wanted.

Suck it up mate, and give the ol' man a break
