Dual Mass Fly Wheel
« on: 25 August 2013, 23:35 »
Mine might need replacing. I've had an ongoing rattle/noise of sorts for a while and this is now seeming like the only thing the last garage can suggest that may be causing it. Mines a 2010 DSG 4 door with 40k on the clock. I don't know much about the process involved but it seems lengthy. Does anyone know a rough idea what this should cost to do?

Thanks.

When my DMF was replaced the cost of a new DMF was approx £900 + vat at VW. This was in June this year.

I had 40% goodwill on the flywheel but I think you could double check with PSI tuning to see if the MK5 GTI flywheel is the same as the MK6 as it's advertised at £536.

What reason did you need to replace yours Poached? And how many miles was it at. Mines out of warranty now

Failed at 53k.

Was driving along one day when the Mechatronics badly malfunctioned, there was minimal power output through the gearbox and revs were rising very slowly and then I started to hear grinding noises. I switched the engine off and restarted a couple of times but it didn't make a difference so was towed by the AA. In the end both the Gearbox and Flywheel were replaced.

I knew as soon as it happened it wasn't going to be good. Here are some sobering costs:

DSG box - £4200
Mechatronics £1800
DMF - £900

I was given a goodwill contribution which brought the bill down to about £2300.

I've had a similar malfunction in my previous DSG car but the erratic behavior disappeared after a restart and thought nothing more of it but it was a sign of potential mechatronic issues.

I would think this type of failure is rare.

Get the Flywheel inspected first before you splash out.

Do you have a full main dealer service history?

Full VW service history does count when it comes to these situations...You stand more chance of getting a goodwill gesture.

Other factors are mileage/age of car.

Any mods?
