I requested my car was sent to VW when it broke down on the basis that I would have a good chance of receiving some good will on the failure.
I could have sent it to an Indy but what if they said the same as VW? I could have been £5k out of pocket! Plus I now have 2 years parts and labour warranty as well.
Both DSG equipped cars I've owned either failed or showed possible signs of problems at some point so I'm not sure about longevity on higher mileage cars 100k+ on original equipment.
Given the cost of replacement of DSG components some MK5 GTI's are approaching the value of a DSG gearbox on the used market so maybe we will see more gearbox refurbishment or written off cars if the gearbox needs replacing?
