Mk4 golf heat shield DIY help needed
« on: 23 August 2013, 21:06 »
Evening all. Want to make the most of this weekend so have got my self a sheet of aluminium to make a heat shield for my air filter.

My big ask is I know a few of you guys are running fairly similar heat shields to this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-mk4-A3-Air-intake-heat-shield-open-cone-shield-cupra-/141041255994?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20d6b6c63a

So would it be possible for someone to draw me a rough stencil with dimensions ?

I would have sold you the same heat shield for £15, I recently took mine off as I think its a sh!te design,

Needs a base imo and also restricts airflow to the filter.

Works fine on mine and how does it restrict air??? Your air intake is pointed right at it!!

Right so measured it up.. ruffly ..hard to get a ruler around it

The hieght all around is about 8.5". The left side of the shield(side faces front the car)  is 8.5" in length.. the rear is 8" in length (side the maf hole will be) and the right side of the shield ( side faces back of the engine) is 5" in length.

Width ofcourse is whatever thickness sheet your using

Only issue is looking at it its got a slanted design its not exactly square. And the brackets are sticking out on it havent added them in the sizes

All I know is the car runs far better without the shield fitted, In my opinion the sides of the shield sits to close to
a JR/Jetex filter,
