Just for info for those in the same boat, just spoke to the finance guy (my dealer is off today) and said about the 20 weeks car - he said no problem at all, I'm to phone back tomorrow to speak to the chap I'm dealing with so he can sort it, but no issues whatsoever.

Roll on my UP!!

Is that to say they'd rather have your TT sooner? I thought that for the sake of a month they'd just leave you with yours if it's being chopped in rather than sold privately (which would leave you carless without the UP).

I can't be left carless, need it for work.  The part ex on my TT was valued at 31/07/13 GTI delivery - so you can imagine how many extra miles I'll be putting on the TT by the time I take delivery nearly 2 months from that date.  Makes sense for them to get it early so as to not lose out that much on the part ex, and makes sense for me to chop it in and get something that isn't going to cost me loads in petrol for the next month.  I could sell it privately this week, but I can't be bothered with the hassle, especially as convertible season is basically over!

Its old Craig, its a mk1 225bhp quattro.  Picked it up cheap last October to replace my 3 series as knew I was going to order a new car in 2013 (hadn't decided what to get then) and also I'd never had a convertible so bought it at the right time ie. when it was cold & prices were low, so that I could use it for the early summer then get rid.  Didn't care about mpg as knew I was only keeping it for max 9 months (or so I thought!)

So you see now its starting to drag (I was expecting to have got rid of it by now) and I'm bored of the convertible side of things and even more bored of getting 20mpg!!

Get rid now while the weather is canny and get your courtesy car, hadn't realised it was a soft top.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Its p!ssing it down today

I could sell it privately but there's so many of them around and I can't be bothered with the hassle - yes, I'd probably make a few hundred quid extra on my part ex value but I haven't got the time at the mo to deal with messers coming round, so I'm happy taking the part ex value.

Also, once the novelty of having the roof down wears off, it actually becomes annoying having a convertible.  Especially traveling on the motorway, by the time you get home it feels like you've chained 60 fags such are the fumes you're breathing in.  Can't hear your music properly when the roof is down either (and its got a BOSE in it!)   And bored of the wind noise, being so low down, hard ride etc etc.

It might be worth double checking this 20 week rule. I brought it up with my dealer and was told the clock starts ticking from when the factory accepts the order, not when you place the order with the dealer.
I'd be glad to be proven wrong though.

I've agreed a private sale as I can get more then VW will give me now the wait has hammered my p/x and I can avoid the tax and mot coming up.  Can I still ask VW for a courtesy car?  They bloody well ought to provide one given the wait they've caused.

I'd demand a Golf.

VW Executive Office told me it was the date of order per my order form.  But when has VW's word ever been 100% right!   Even if they've got this wrong I'm going to get that courtesy car given the p!ssing around with these delays, that's the least I'd expect as compensation.

Agreed Bear.  I certainly will be pushing for a Golf.  Hell, they can give me their demo GTI or GTD!!

Usually those 2 dates are only a day or 2 apart. I ordered on Good Friday and VW accepted the order the next day - so they even work some of the weekends.
