I've agreed a private sale as I can get more then VW will give me now the wait has hammered my p/x and I can avoid the tax and mot coming up.  Can I still ask VW for a courtesy car?  They bloody well ought to provide one given the wait they've caused.

I'd demand a Golf.

Agreed Bear.  I certainly will be pushing for a Golf.  Hell, they can give me their demo GTI or GTD!!

Yeah ask for it!  Seriously.

I will!  They can only say no.  If you don't ask you don't get at the end of the day.  Plus, the argument (which won't be upheld I'm sure) is that there should be a like for like comparison - GTI it is then!

Ok, some info for you chaps. According to the VW Exec Office the 20 weeks starts from the date that the factory received the order. This is not what I was lead to believe but there's f7ck all you can do about it. This date is the 19th of each month regardless of when you physically placed the order. So in my case I ordered on 8th April but VW only count the order from 19th. So in reality I'm at 19 weeks since ordering but in VW's mind I'm only 17 weeks.

The upshot of this is that instead of being able to collect a hire car (like for like  from Europa Car through my dealer) a week today, I actually can't get one till Fri 6th Sep.

Now according to the VW Exec Office the 6th is the day I should be able to collect my car. Now unless Zeus pops up and blows the ship at super speed across the sea that's total b0llocks.

There is one bit of good news however in that according to them my car has been built and is awaiting shipment

Da f**k is this sh!t?  I ordered on the bloody next day!  You telling me this means I have to wait a whole additional month?  FFS is this also affecting the build weeks, like you order one day later than the "magic VW date" and get bumped a whole month?  What the hell is going on?  Someone please explain.

Now unless Zeus pops up and blows the ship at super speed across the sea that's total b0llocks.

I think you mean Poseidon?  Zeus would just lightning it which probably wouldn't help much (EDIT: but probably helps more than VW customer "service" does).

Haha, yes Zeus wouldn't be much help then!!

Yes, according to VW EO it's irrelevant what day you ordered or when it was submitted because each dealer's monthly allocation is accepted on the 19th, and this is when the 20 weeks starts. This could explain your delay Bear, as you are 4 weeks down straight away.

Shocking isn't it.

I would def try and sell privately if you have time on your side.

I got £4500 for my 330 ci v best trade in offer of £3500 from a dealer.  When I agreed to order the golf it was understood that the lead time they quoted me was reflected in the part ex, so if it slips by 1 month or 6, tough luck, they take the loss

It was good to underwrite the deal like that but I was always going to try and sell it privately first..

Can be a hassle but if you are at 20 weeks and they are going to give you a car, why not try and get more for it privately. At the end of the day they will only shift yours through a trader anyway so will probably thank you if you dont part ex it..

Depends on the dealer but I believe most will want the p/x because they make big bucks though they obviously don't advertise that fact much.

They'll take your car, say for £9,000 and flog it for £10,000 making a grand.  As part of that £10,000 deal they p/x another car for £8,000 and flog that for £9,000 making a grand.  As part of that £9,000 deal they p/x another car for £6,000 and flog that for £7,000 making a grand... and so on and so forth until finally the bottom car gets p/x for £f**k all and goes to the scrap heap.

If there are 8 or 10 or 12 cars in the sequence they are making that many thousands out of this.

My part ex price is fixed, so they're taking the hit on the extra miles. The issue  I have with selling it privately is that it's due a service very soon and also some (unt keyed the bonnet (it was there when the dealer valued it) - I'm not paying to service it nor to fix the scratch, and a private buyer would incorporate that into the price (as I would) and therefore any extra I get selling privately would be swallowed up by having to take these two factors into account.

Surely the factory has accepted the order as soon as you get your VW order number? They'd probably wriggle out of it by saying VW UK gave your dealer that order number and that the factory didn't accept VW UK's placement of your order until the following 19th of the month.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
