Who's going to take a car after 20 weeks?
« on: 16 August 2013, 09:53 »
Hi all - advice please.  At the moment I've got a TT, which is going to be part ex'd.  20 weeks from my order will be bank holiday Monday (26th Aug), so my car is no where near being delivered by then.  I'm seriously considering taking VW up on their 20 week policy to provide me with a courtesy car.

Reasons - sick of driving my car, but more importantly I get about 20 mpg which is rubbish and I'm fed up of filling up all the time.  So I could give it to the dealer, and get myself something which is a little more economical.  Also, I've all ready shelled out for an MOT and a new tyre which I shouldn't have had to and its due a service soon and there is no way in the world I'm paying out for that.

Disadvantage - they'll probably give me an Up!

Are any of you in the same situation and thinking of doing the same?

It was me who said that

They have to, its past the 20 weeks.  I'm 100% sure on this.  In my case they could argue that I've still got my car and they'll just take the loss on the part ex with the extra miles I'm doing, however in your case you don't have a car so you should get zero arguments!

If you can get a courtesy car from VW regardless of what it is I would take it. Save yourself the pennies in terms of the service and fuel costs etc. Who cares if you have to drive an UP for a few weeks, its a small sacrifice but will save you a fair bit in the long run.

Thats what i would do Mark.

Yes, I agree Craig.  I've no problem driving an Up for a few weeks - it will certainly save me a few quid even in the space of 3-4 weeks - plus will make getting into the GTI even more special!

That's what I'll do I think.  When I was younger I had a Seat Arosa so it'll be like going back in time!

Just for info for those in the same boat, just spoke to the finance guy (my dealer is off today) and said about the 20 weeks car - he said no problem at all, I'm to phone back tomorrow to speak to the chap I'm dealing with so he can sort it, but no issues whatsoever.

Roll on my UP!!

Correct, so the date on your order form.  If they didn't technically order the car on that day that's not your problem - you have a bit of paper with a date on it and that's what they have to go by.

Is that to say they'd rather have your TT sooner? I thought that for the sake of a month they'd just leave you with yours if it's being chopped in rather than sold privately (which would leave you carless without the UP).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I have a plan,

I am going to take the Courtesy car for the next few months and will keep an eye on the classifieds, if I spot anything I will return the car to VW and cancel my order.

Always take what is on offer, whether you use it or not is your choice. also if VW are forking out on loads for courtesy cars they may shift the GTI orders on a bit.
