Seriously, all joking aside, this is by a huge margin the worst new car buying experience of my life. My other 4 VW's all went through perfectly. Is this just prevalent to the VAG brands, or are all other marque (Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar etc.) all just as bad ?

Anyone any idea ?

Well I dunno about Jag or Merc but I've spoken to 2 BMW dealers now and they are both being exceedingly helpful.  Now admittedly this is the sales stage so they would be really wouldn't they?  However I'd still say they are a LOT nicer than my VW dealer is (who is very matter of fact and bored sounding on the phone) and my previous experience with Ford post sale and post delivery was also miles better.

Now back on topic:

"Once you have a confirmed BW your car will definately be built in that week... unless there are some kind of delays.  In which case we'll keep you up to date and informed at all time... if we get around to it."

I hope not, for the sake of you and fellow (hopefully) soon to be mk7 GTI and GTD owners. I had exactly an 8 month wait from date of ordering (Nov 10) to taking delivery (Jul 11) with my mk6 GTD.

For me personally, I ordered the same time in April 2009 and took delivery 2nd week of Sep. So at best I'm looking at 3 weeks later than that. At best.
