If they are fitted with mk4 tyres you will need to change them to 195/45/16's or you will screw the gearing and speedo up.

tyres on my mk3 are 195/50/15 so if using the monty 2's i assume therefore i would need 195/40/16 tyres to keep my gearing/speedo accurate

Nope 195/45/16, 205/45/16 or 215/40/16 are the choices, 215/40 was the factory size on an Anni
nice one thanks for the useful info :afro:

Update: Got new tyres fitted today, and going to have the wheels fitted on the car tomorrow. Are you guys sure that the vw emblems won't fit? I can't be bothered adding a spacer - it isn't legal here in Denmark, and don't want to go through the trouble of finding the correct one. However, I still really would like the VW emblems.. Maybe I can sand them back a bit and they will fit? I mean if the spacer only needs to be 3 mm, it shouldn't be that much? Cheers

it's the caps that go over the rear bearing nuts that's foul, you may be able to knock them in a few mm (it may give a few mm to let you fit caps)

Looks like I'm gonna need 5mm spacers.. 3mm seems like it would be a bit too tight a fit... Is it a possibility to knock the wheel bearing caps a bit flat, or is that dangerous?

No Wayne you said my wheel/tyre combination was greater than the standard rolling radius.
Funny how you twist things when you are baltantly wrong!

Just for you, let me repost the info, I never siad greater but they are the wrong size, not that you will listen

Specification  Sidewall  Radius  Diameter  Circumference  Revs/Mile  Difference

205/50-15         4.0in  11.5in    23.1in         72.5in        874        0.0%
205/40-17         3.2in  11.7in    23.5in         73.7in        860        1.7%
215/40-17         3.4in  11.9in    23.8in         74.7in        848        3.0%

So as I said they will throw the speed / gearing out to a bigger degree against 205/40's
